Step 1 – Science
1 Hands-on investigation from each of the four curriculum strands
- Living Things- Exercise your Heart
- Energy and Forces- Design a Bridge
- Materials- It's a Matter of State
- Environmental Awareness- Bird Feeders
Science Week
To celebrate Science Week For Science Week, we took part in Climate Action Day. We listened to inspirational and influential speakers from around the world, including DR. Jane Goodall, Sir David Attenborough, and students from across the globe who were taking part in Climate Action projects. Afterwards, we held a class quiz using Kahoot, based on the information we learned and noted throughout the webinar. We also planted a tree to mark the day and do our bit for the environment.
Space Week
To celebrate Space week went on a virtual tour of space. We used NASA’s website to study photos of Earth from space, watch and discuss videos and listened to some astronauts discuss the Mars Rover and Ingenuity. We also went on a virtual trip of our solar system.
Step 2 – Technology
Examples of how the children used technology as part of their school work.
- We took part in Hour of Code and focused on Minecraft for Education. The children worked at their own level and successfully completed the Hour of Code, for which they received a certificate at the end.
- We also often use ICT in our learning, especially to record and analyse data. We used Kahoot to record information we learned from a science lesson based on Energy and Forces. We then played the quiz together as a class as a form of assessment.

Step 3 - Engineering
Examples of how the children investigated engineering in class or in the local area by applying their STEM knowledge and skills
Design and make activities.
- The children were set a STEM Challenge on seesaw, to design and make a pyramid.
- Investigated how everyday items work: We investigated how windmills work. We designed them using a template and discussed how to make it step by step. Below are photos of our lesson.

Step 4 - Maths
2 or more examples of how the children have applied their maths knowledge and skills in practical ways.
Below are photos of how we used Maths skills and knowledge as part of Science, Technology, Engineering and design.
- One example of how learners have applied their maths skills in a practical way: Took part in Maths Week
- One example of how learners have applied their maths skills in a practical way: Maths Trail around school. Our maths trail was modified to suit home learning.

Step 5 – STEM Show and Tell (2019-2020)
1 or more examples of how the children have presented and explained their STEM work to others
Here are examples of Stem Showcase:
- Presenting projects using Word Document.
- Hold a Science exhibition presenting and explaining the children's STEM work to the school community.
Inventors Group Projects 2nd and 3rd class
The children in 2nd & 3rd class researched inventors and presented their projects in groups to the class.
Below are photographs of our science exhibition. The children researched and made their own STEM projects and presented them to the school community.
The children made rockets, catapults, Lego, windmills and much more. Others researched and presented science experiments.
