The *Say Yes to Languages* initiative is a program launched in Ireland to promote the learning of foreign languages among primary school students. Introduced by the Department of Education, the initiative aims to expose children to a range of languages early on, fostering linguistic curiosity and cultural appreciation. It provides schools with flexible teaching resources for various languages, including French, Spanish, Polish, Irish Sign Language, and others, depending on the school’s choice.
The program also supports teachers with specialized training and teaching materials, encouraging a more diverse, multilingual environment in Irish education. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to develop students' language skills, improve cognitive abilities, and prepare them for a globalized world.
