We got our greenhouse in March of last year. This was funded through a grant awarded to the school for STEM, Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths.
It was dug out and erected by parents and grandparents of pupils in school. The pupils filled the boxes with soil and we began our planting journey. This year we planted courgettes, pumpkin, leeks, cauliflower, peas, herbs, carrots and calendula.
A greenhouse in a school is a valuable educational tool that provides hands-on learning in science, sustainability, and agriculture. It helps students understand plant biology, fosters eco-consciousness, and promotes healthy eating by growing their own food. Beyond academics, it encourages teamwork, responsibility, and mental well-being, while also offering practical skills for future careers.
More recently we got matting from Easifix to make sure that the Greenhouse is accessible to the pupils all year round.
